Prof. Asha Singh Kanwar is one of the world’s leading advocates for learning for development, and current Vice President of the Commonwealth of Learning (COL). She has been appointed as President and Chief Executive Officer of COL. She is specifically responsible for stakeholder engagement and programme direction. Before joining COL, Professor Kanwar was a consultant in open and distance learning at UNESCO's Regional Office for Education in Africa (BREDA) in Dakar, Senegal. Dr. Kanwar's engagement with distance education began when she joined Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi in 1988. In 1996 she was designated Director of the School of Humanities, IGNOU and in 1999, she became Pro-Vice Chancellor of IGNOU. Professor Kanwar has over 30 years of experience in teaching, research and administration.
